Grade News
The second grade is still looking for parent volunteers to attend the Jan., Feb., March, April, and May Four Winds' training sessions. Please contact me at school for the dates and times if you are interested. Thank you so much for the great new books for independent reading! Joseph and his family donated several magazines and lots of paperback books to our second grade classroom. (Arthur's Adventures, Franklin stories, the Berenstain Bears, Mercer Mayer, Leo Lionni, and Ranger Rick) The books have been labeled, shelved, and are just waiting to be read! The second grade students would like to thank John Sebastian and his family for the yummy chocolate chip muffins that he shared with us on his birthday. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! A huge thank you goes out to all the second grade families for their contributions to our food basket. Our basket was filled to the brim with many different food items, and will surely make one family's holiday more enjoyable. The second grade students would like to thank Gabrielle and her family for the delicious birthday cupcakes that we enjoyed at snack time to celebrate her eighth birthday. The students would also like to thank their classmate, Kyle and his family for the cool souvenirs they gave us from Hawaii. In January we will begin to use the beautiful Hawaiian calendar in our classroom! Once again, thank you for thinking of us while you were away on your family vacation! What a terrific harvest celebration we had! The second graders watched the early American tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for literacy. The story, told by Glenn Close, pits the new schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, against the local hero and bully, Brom Bones. The tale ends with the appearance of one of the great, legendary ghosts: The Headless Horseman and the disappearance of Ichabod Crane. Just before the costume parade, the students had fun trying to eat doughnuts without using their hands. The doughnuts were tied to the end of strings and hung from the ceiling. There was a lot of giggling as the students tried to bite the moving doughnuts! What fun it was to see all the children in their awesome costumes for the parade at school! Everyone was all smiles as they marched around the playground. I would like to thank all the parents for donating so many wonderful treats for our classroom party. |
