Health Services

All students in grades K-8 are screened each year for hearing, vision, height, weight, and blood pressure.  Eleven to 13 year olds are also screened for scoliosis.  Students are rescreened prior to referring parents to their physicians for further testing.

Please make the nurse aware of any significant health concern that you have concerning your child(ren).   Feel free to call the school nurse if you have any questions.

The Vermont State Board of Nursing and the Vermont Department of Education and The Dorset School require a physician’s signature and a parent or guardian signature before any prescription medication will be given at school; non-prescription medication requires a parent or guardian signature.

Medication should be given before or after school hours.  However, when doses are necessary to administer at school, medicines must be sent in the original container with the child’s name on it, and a completed medication permission form must accompany it.  These forms may be obtained at your physician’s office or at the nurse’s office.
