Welcome to the Dorset Middle School, and our science classroom! Learning is a challenging and rewarding process, and I enjoy our community being involved in our children's learning and science education.

            It’s my belief that all people have an innate interest in figuring out how the world around them works. Science is one way to approach understanding our world.  I hope to develop and support my students' fascination in science and the natural world, a belief that science is important, and a belief that they are scientists.

            Science class is a mixture of exploration and discovery, hands-on activities, student guided and teacher directed projects, discussion, research, reading, writing, and lecture.

             My expectations for class are as follows: students will work to the best of their ability at all times; they will be respectful to fellow students and adults; they will work to become independent learners; written material may not be perfect (unless it is for a paper or project), but it will be done with an appropriate level of penmanship, grammar and spelling; and students will communicate with me when they feel they need help, are confused, or have other concerns.

            Students should spend a certain amount of time on their science homework each night, unless I tell them otherwise. For sixth graders, the time spend should be 15-20 minutes; 20-25 minutes, and for seventh graders; and 25-30 minutes for eighth graders. I do not necessarily require that they finish all their homework, only that they work hard for the required amount of time. I can work through any difficulties the students may have had the next day in class.

          Grading:

            Homework: 25%
          Class work: 25%
          Projects, Tests + Quizzes: 50%
