The Gray Gazette

                                                                           May 19-23, 2008

Next week’s list of words finishes the spelling program. If your child is not a strong speller please review the dictation booklets that will be sent home, and make a list of words that your child should work on over the summer.

We will be doing a unit on simple circuits. I will stress to the class that the small voltage batteries we are using should be handled with caution, and that children should NEVER experiment with the electrical current that runs through our houses. Please reinforce this important safety message at home!

There will be a band and chorus concert on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:30 PM and a whole school spring concert on Thursday, May 29th , also at 6:30 PM. Hope to see you there.

School will not be in session next Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Next week we will be using the Rutland Herald to learn about newspapers. I have ordered an issue for each child starting on Tuesday, May 27th. We will spend several days dissecting the news and learning about the different parts of a newspaper.

I would like to give students an opportunity to share their favorite Norman Rockwell story with an audience of parents. I had to change the event to, Wednesday, June 4th at 6:00 in our school library. I know that at this time of the year it’s impossible to find a night that doesn’t interfere with someone’s athletic program, so it’s not mandatory to attend.

This will be my final newsletter for the year. My main purpose was to keep you informed about happenings in the classroom, but it also helped me reflect weekly on what I was teaching and how we were progressing.

I appreciate all the help and support you have given this year. Many of you have been able to volunteer, and others regularly sent encouraging notes of support.

I count my blessings every day to have a job that I truly enjoy, great colleagues, parents who believe in the power of education, and a community like Dorset to raise my own children.

Have a wonderful summer,

Esther Gray
