The Dorset School Board of Directors is five members of the
The school directors, along with the school administration, are responsible for:
The fiscal operation of the school, including determining the sum of monies needed to operate the school and presenting the budget to the town to be voted on at town meeting.
The hiring/firing and contracts for all school staff, including administration.
Setting the direction and goals of The Dorset School’s educational programs.
Determining operating policies, and reporting to the town.
Answering questions and being accountable to the townspeople.
In the case of hearing parent concerns or complaints, the Board sits as the final appeals board when a parent has found no satisfaction dealing with the school system itself.
The School Board’s ultimate goal is to work with professional administrators to provide a safe learning environment for
All School Board meetings are open to the public, though confidential issues (pertaining to contract negotiations, students or personnel, possible legal mattes, etc.) are discussed in executive session.
Meeting dates (the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at
) and times are warned in the Bennington Banner and usually noted in the Manchester Journal (except for emergency meetings).
Minutes from previous meetings are recorded and posted at the Town Office and posted in the Dorset Post Office.
Any townsperson interested in education and being involved in the management of the school should submit his/her name, by petition, to the Town Office by mid-January.
