Each student in the middle school
(grades 6-8) is assigned an advisor. Advisors
are faculty members who meet with their advisees in small groups, generally eight
students, for approximately twenty minutes a day. It
is a major function of the advisor to provide a special adult connection for each advisee
here at school, to be that childs special advocate.
Advisor/Advisee aims are:
To become a communications system between home and school by encouraging each
student to have a special connection with one adult who provides a home base for him/ her
throughout the year.
To encourage the growth of a sense of community which allows everyone in the
group to feel a greater sense of belonging, support and friendship.
To provide opportunities for students to understand the need for esteem of
others, as well as self, to help students to see themselves as successful, both personally
and interpersonally.
To provide opportunities for students to understand and participate in
service to others.
