Advisor/ Advisee

Each student in the middle school (grades 6-8) is assigned an advisor.  Advisors are faculty members who meet with their advisees in small groups, generally eight students, for approximately twenty minutes a day.  It is a major function of the advisor to provide a special adult connection for each advisee here at school, to be that child’s special advocate.

Advisor/Advisee aims are:

  • To become a communications system between home and school by encouraging each student to have a special connection with one adult who provides a home base for him/ her throughout the year.

  • To encourage the growth of a sense of community which allows everyone in the group to feel a greater sense of belonging, support and friendship.

  • To provide opportunities for students to understand the need for esteem of others, as well as self, to help students to see themselves as successful, both personally and interpersonally.

  • To provide opportunities for students to understand and participate in service to others.
